Little White Lies
Embellishing your resume can catch up to you.

Employers are beginning to scrutinize resumes closer than ever
before. Researchers for a survey conducted by ResumeDoctor.com in
2005 reviewed a large number of resumes and found that 42.7%, had at
least one "inaccuracy" and approximately 13% had two or
more factual errors.
When employers call for educational and employment places, they
strive to verify three sections: Dates of Employment, Job Titles or
Roles, and Education.
Some of the inaccuracies found are related to employment dates as
a result of a candidate trying to cover up periods of unemployment.
A job title is often embellished, however that can be easily
verified.
Embellishing educational qualifications are also red flags. We
have found that a number of candidates listed a degree on their
resume but never actually finished all the requirements or attained
a degree.
Another red flag is indicated by not putting a date on the
finished degree. Many people feel they might be telling their age,
however by eliminating the date, that is the first thing that an
employer notices and questions.
Embellishing or omitting information on a resume speaks to a
person's integrity. That is a risk that is taken much too often on
resumes.
Providing references: Chances are the people you provide as
references are going to say something good about you. However, if
the person checking references asks if it is ok to call a former
supervisor or someone who has been a superior, even if they are not
listed on the reference list, then any resume embellishments could
easily catch up with you.
